Where does Fraud Begin

Credit card fraud begins in one of two places.  It can begin with the theft or loss of the credit card, or the compromising of personal information that pertains to your financial records…

This can be something as simple as the shop assistant recording your credit card details for later use at home; so watch out for those whose are on their last day of work and are planning to leave the country the very next day!  Of course i am kidding, but this can happen, albeit a very rare occurence.  What this serves to do is illuminate just how easy it is to get your personal financial data out there.  You should always be careful about who sees your name and address and your card numbers etc.  It’s sad i know, but when it comes to the protection of your credit card and your financial security there really is nothing safe anymore.

A really good fraudster will not use your account straight away when they get hold of your details, and you should never think that once you are aware you have compromised your details, if there is no activity on your account, that you are safe.  Some criminals hang onto your details for weeks or months before they help themselves; and it’s usually when you are least expecting an attack.  Always remember that many of these people do this for a living, and like you in your desk job in the city, they are very good at their job.
